As I sit and write this I am exhausted. This has been my hardest week of nights so far. In addition to our own normal workload, we picked up the workload of another OOH practice. Luckily this was only for four nights (out of seven) however it added another 10 practices to those we normally covered.
Learning
I snuck in Monday morning to see an adrenalectomy which is a procedure I’ve not seen before. I did two new procedures during my nights this week which is pretty cool. Though this week has been a lot of medicine which is my nemesis – I struggle with this especially on some of the more complex cases.
Publications
I am determined to get as many publications as possible during my internship to help me get my residency. I am currently working on a project which is research based which I’ve been trying to get as much background work done for as possible. Hopefully will have the background finished over the next week as planning to use a lot of my time off for this.
I also put together a background reading list for the case report I am working on which is pretty cool.
End of module
This week was the last week of my CertAVP Soft Tissue Surgery B Module. Generally this means an online exam however this time around they mixed it up a little. Instead of the normal 90-minute long timed assessment they made it a untimed open book assessment. This was only announced recently and I had no idea of what to expect. The exam consisted of a scenario question and development of protocols to address this. I am a little nervous over how I did here and have to wait for results. I have passed my case reports here though. I am just waiting for a couple more cases for my case log and then I can submit that as well.
I get to start my final module of my CertAVP next Monday.
