This was my off week. I finished my run of nights on Monday morning so this week is mostly recovery and getting my sleep pattern normal.
I’ve been struggling with this recently though, with it taking me several days to go back to normal. And even now my sleep is weird – somewhere between 6pm-2am. I’ve always been a night owl though with most of my best work in the late afternoon/evening time. I’ve started to read Why We Sleep, which actually says there is a genetic link for this. Being a morning person is actually genetic, and so I will never achieve this, forcing myself to do will leave me chronically tired. This explains so much already and I’ve barely got through the first 40 pages. I will write more on this once I finish reading this completely.
There’s been work behind the scenes preparing for the launch of the BVDA Virtual Congress. This is something I am really proud to be a part off. Dental disease in veterinary medicine is something that nearly affects every animal we see. And fixing dental pain can improve quality of life massively for so many animals. So important for welfare! Hopefully we will get to the stage where conference registrations open in the next week or 2.
Alongside this is my passion for owner education. Recently I’ve invested in getting set up for 2D animation and also for drawing my own artwork onto PC. There are so many topics I want to cover; I am planning to start small though with the story of plaque. Several hours have already gone into the artwork for this. I unfortunately am a perfectionist (and not an artist) so will never manage to get this perfect. One of my role models Anthony Chadwick taught me that if you look for perfection in everything you will never achieve anything. So I’ve decided though that once I have this to a reasonable level that I will share it to test the waters.
The new Vet Clinics issue arrived yesterday as well. This is focused on feline medicine and the integrations of medicine and wellbeing. The first few articles in here look at stress, environment and behaviour in cats with things like neuropathic pain covered later. Very excited to get stuck into this! One of the benefits of being an intern/student is getting a discounted subscription on this.
CertAVP study this week has been the last week focused on the genitourinary system. Looking at the more advanced procedures (urinary incontinence, nephrotomy and vulvovaginectomy) so just a theoretical knowledge is needed here. I’ve also started to put together the outline for my final case report for this module.
